Orangutan petitions

The word Orangutan in Malay means "Person of the Forest." These long-haired, orangish primates, found only in Sumatra and Borneo, are highly intelligent and are close relatives of humans. Because orangutans live in only a few places, and because they are so dependent upon trees, they are particularly susceptible to logging in these areas.
Habitat loss and poaching are pushing them towards extinction. Every minute, every day an area equal to six football fields of Indonesian forest disappears. A desperate struggle for survival is raging deep in the heart of Borneo's forests. Illegal logging is rapidly destroying the Bornean orangutans' last stronghold in the wild — leaving hundreds of orangutan babies orphaned and homeless. Their future seems bleak but there is still Hope.

***The Problem with Palm Oil:
Approximately 85 percent of palm oil is grown in the forests of Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) .The logging is rapidly destroying the forests and causing severe impacts on the environment and climate, forest's animals and people.
